Amazing fish pie !
Ingredients for 2-3 people: Small salmon fillet, small white fish fillet, bit of smoked mackeral, 500ml king prawns, milk, cloves, butter/marg, potatoes, bay leaf, onion, grated cheese, hardinto boiled egg.
Peel 1/2 an onion, stud with a 3 cloves, add a bay leaf, cover with milk, season with salt and black pepper, and bring to a gentle simmer in a pan. Add in the salmon and white fish, and cook for around 10-15 minutes until the fish flakes easily. I usually add around 500ml of milk.
In the meantime boil some potatoes ( 3-4 big ones), and mash to make a topping for the pie. Hardboil one egg, when cooked peel and dice.
When the fish is done flake into a pyrex bowl, quarter the king prawns and add those, and a small fillet of smoked mackeral flaked, finally the hard boiled egg.
Pass the milk that you cooked the fish in through a sieve, into a bowl. Into a fresh pan put a knob of butter or margerine, melt, and stir in one and a half desert spoons of white flour until it makes a paste, keep on a lowish heat, and then pour in gradually the milk from the bowl, stirring to make a smooth sauce. ( if it gets a bit lumpy use a whisk ), Turn the heat up and stir until it just starts to thicken. Pour this on top of the fish.
Mash the potatoes, adding in some grated cheese, and top the fish dish with a good couple of inches of mash. Sprinkle some cheese on the top.
Put on a tray ( because it will drip), and place in an oven on 180c for around 20-25 minutes, Serve with crusty white bread, and if you have them young broad beans.
